15/01/2020 > 17/01/2020 - Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Istituto per il Teatro e il Melodramma, Venezia

Marco Valerio Amico and Daniele Torcellini will be among the speakers for the important Lumière Matière conference at the Giorgio Cini Foundation, invited by the University of Padua.

In Padua and Venice, from 15 to 17 January, the second session of the Lumière-Matière conference, promoted by Laboratoire CEAC – Program de Recherche Lumière de Spectacle, University of Lille, in collaboration with the Institute for Theater and Melodrama of the Foundation Giorgio Cini of Venice, the University of Padua (DiSLL and dBC departments), the Ca ‘Foscari University of Venice. The conference is sponsored by AIDI, the Italian Lighting Association and the magazine LUCE.

The participation of scholars and artists from Italy, France, Brazil and Portugal is expected.

The Lumière-Matière conference is part of a research project launched in 2017 that is headed by the Lumière de Spectacle group, directed by Véronique Perruchon and Cristina Grazioli, belonging to the Laboratoire CEAC-Center Etudes des Arts Contemporains and carried out in the form of seminars and conferences with an international vocation and implications on the side of research, training, teaching and dissemination1. The first session, we recall, was held last November 7 and 8 at the University of Lille. The main objective of the Lumière de spectacle program is to create and promote a territory of research and reflection, in the dialogue between academia and the professional and artistic world, focused on stage light starting from its artistic dimension. The technical aspects relating to lighting are not considered to be separable from this context, both from a historical perspective and as an object of reflection in contemporary aesthetics.

The conference aims to study the materiality of light in its concreteness and in its immateriality, whether it is diffused or direct light, of digital or natural origin, of light or darkness. Whether it is a scenic code or a metaphor, it is possible to face the aesthetic dimension of light on stage concretely, without denying the speculative component that it evokes.
