Sport returns to the stage in Sarzana, in the attic of the Fortezza Firmafede, for the tenth edition of Fisiko!

Renzo Francabandera, writing for PAC – Paneacquaculture, reads this restaging as a reckoning with the most inexorable variable of all: time, and its effect on a body and on a practice. In it he finds «the deep sense of continuing the practices of art».

[...] After the public showing of the workshop "Aurore", led by Chiara Taviani, at the Fortezza Firmafede, we climb up into the attic of the fortress to attend the revival of Sport by gruppo nanou. This is the restaging, after more than a decade, of a project choreographed by Marco Valerio Amico and Rhuena Bracci and performed by the latter. A piece of half-light cut by small blades of light, within which we make out the body of the performer, engaged throughout in an intense gymnastic warm-up, ideally the prelude to a competition. Somersaults, vaults, bends and stretches of the body inside a metal cage set at the back of the stage, of which we observe details, moments, frames. Above all, for anyone who saw Sport at its début some years ago, there is the sense of continuing the arduous preparation and realisation of the artistic sign, entrusted to a body that time has made more mature, more earthy, more anchored to the ground. To restage a work of this kind (the image appears in this article's cover photograph, a beautiful shot by Francesco Capitani) means confronting, among many variables, the most inexorable one in human existence: time, and its effect on the phenomena of existence. This subterranean sensation runs all the stronger, not because Bracci's warm-up and gymnastic trial lack anything — quite the contrary. Rather because it is precisely here that we find the deep sense of continuing the practices of art. [...]
