There are artists who assert their poetics through increasingly hermetic, hostile gestures. Others, instead, hold in the highest regard the perception of those who arrive, buy a ticket and perform the theatrical rite (and without whose presence nothing takes place, other than an empty picture). To this second species belongs gruppo nanou, which — through an epiphanic use of choreography (Marco Valerio Amico and Rhuena Bracci), music (Bruno Dorella), lights and video imagery — creates living organisms capable of taking care of those who watch. The second movement of the Overlook Hotel project (preceded by redrum, Ubu Award 2024), goldroom immerses the spectator in a quietly hallucinatory environment that unsettles the chronological axis of events in favour of a mythical, circular time (the Greeks called it "aion"). Ideally we find ourselves in the ballroom of The Shining, which also summons the nocturnal creatures of Lynch and Cronenberg. Just as the performers confront their own projections (out of sync), we too, guests of the golden room, activate the imaginal mind, connecting to the phantasmatic reality flowing alongside us. Seen at Ravenna Festival, the performance arrives in Rome for Fuori Programma, a contemporary dance festival hosting, among others, Michele Di Stefano, Loredana Parrella, Nicola Galli, Maguy Marin.
Teatro India, Rome, 7 and 8 July.
