Camera 404 arrives at Kilowatt Festival, in the Performance Digitale section, as part of the European network Digital on Stage.
Camera 404 takes its name from the error code the web returns when a content has been lost. That void becomes a performative place: unstable memory, choreographic matter, a symbolic number that opens onto an unexpected world.
On stage, Rhuena Bracci — founding and authorial figure of the company — evokes ghosts, unsettling presences, visual memories that return to haunt the scene. A video camera captures the movement; the images reappear with intentional delays across multiple television sets. Artificial intelligence governs the relationship between the performer’s action and the delay of the image, building temporal maps of slippages and overlaps: inside the televisions, an alternative time and space take shape, traversed by the logic of dream, memory and hallucination. Bodies duplicated, dislocated in time, suspended between fiction and presence.
The work belongs to the Overlook Hotel cycle, which makes explicit the relationship between choreography and cinematic language that Nanou has long held dear. From the iconic and symbolic place of The Shining — Stephen King’s novel and Stanley Kubrick’s film — redrum (Premio Ubu 2024, Best Dance Performance) was the first chapter and goldroom is the second. The Place is the choreographic object: an unleashing of the imaginary, a dreamlike, surreal world between the subconscious and madness. Camera 404 grows out of a research process begun during the pandemic within Residenze Digitali and develops further through the artistic residency at KIBLA Maribor (Digital on Stage Mobility Programme 2025).
