Fuori Quadro is a performance installation by gruppo nanou for Renaissance and Baroque pinacoteche.

The project originates from Visioni estatiche in Guercino, a choreographic installation developed in collaboration with the MAR – Museo d'Arte della città di Ravenna, with curatorial support from Giorgia Salerno: two years of experimentation led gruppo nanou to build a sustained relationship with Renaissance and Baroque painting collections, expanding the field from Guercino's corpus to altarpieces, figures, chromatic ranges, and the folds of fabric in the works of the masters.

The body enters the space of the painting to extend its tensions: light, colour, colour fields, voids, folds. Fabrics and movements act as surfaces in transformation, traversed by forces. The body becomes a mobile fold, an unstable extension of the images that preside over the exhibition rooms: it shifts the boundary between figure and ground, between image and real space. The form opens, folds back, overflows the frame. Fuori Quadro works on the edge where the image becomes physical presence, a sensitive field. The audience traverses a system of thresholds: between canvas and room, between painting and body, between iconographic memory and immediate perception.

Admission is free and open-ended: the audience moves through the rooms, lingers, returns, chooses its own time of viewing. There is no right angle from which to look — only an unceasing process of refraction of the gaze.
